When a couple gets married and starts a family you have a new life beginning. And in your new family the in-laws will be present at some time or another.
While they will be wanting to see grandchildren and visit their own children some in-laws don’t consider how just dropping in without any notice or expecting you do certain things without consulting you can be intrusive.
Realize that they did bring you into this world and can feel a little entitled. This is when you have to set some boundaries. Doesn’t mean that you can’t have them to visit or see grandchildren but a certain amount of common courtesy needs to come into play. A phone call before just showing up or not interrupting your family time should be expected.
Although some in-laws might have a difficult time adjusting to your new life that’s when a visit with a counselor could give some perspective on how to handle these situations.
