Faith And Parenting
In this video counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Tim Thomsen are talking about “Faith And Parenting”.
As a parent when you have young children up to teenagers, as far as your faith what do your children observe about your faith? Do you pray as a family? Do you pray with your children? Do the see you read your bible? Or do you pray only when trouble arises. I suspect God would like to hear from you more than at times of crises.
What your children see you do as far as a life of faith will stick with them. Although they may not show it, but they do see your actions. Being a Christian on Sunday and not practicing it all of the other days your children will pick up on that as well. If you are spiritual on Sunday but angry and hateful the rest of the time well they will really see that!
Your time to try and train your children as to how to have faith in God is limited. It should begin early and continue until they can maintain their faith on their own. That means usually young adulthood. You also will have to be there for them even when they have moved out on their own as they may need support even as an adult. That comes with parenting.
If you have shown them the best example of faith in God and taught them well great! If not a christian counselor might be a very helpful way to get ideas on leading your children in their Christian faith. It might just help you too.
